Repair Center

Please contact us before you stop in.  Since technology is always getting better, and prices dropping, we have noticed it is not worth fixing damaged equipment; at least in most cases.  Our experienced staff will be able to better advise you either by phone or e-mail.

Gene Hacker's provides full service for a wide range of video, digital, and photographic equipment.
All repairs are performed in-house by our experienced technicians. (Corporate, Educational and Hospitals should inquire about special rates.)

Quick Fixes

Batteries:
It's true that a high percentage of all repairs are related to battery failure. Please have your batteries checked before sending any equipment to our service center. They can be tested at Gene Hackers or another battery retailer. Keep in mind that most lithium batteries will test "good" on a conventional battery tester, even if the battery is not performing properly. If your battery is a "lithium type" please try a fresh, new battery before sending the equipment in for repair. Make sure the camera's contacts are shiny and clean.

Technology Accidents:
Cameras and camcorders usually have some features that are used infrequently, or perhaps not at all. Sometimes a switch or button is engaged accidentally, causing the equipment to behave differently. Before sending an item for repair, check your instruction manual to be sure that the problem is not related to any "operator error."

Duplication:
If a problem occurs with your equipment, try to duplicate the error. This helps you to narrow down the cause. It could be a defective roll of film or videotape that is causing the problem. Rewind and unload the film or tape, operate the equipment without it, and then operate it with a new roll of film or tape. If the malfunction ceased when the first roll or tape was removed, then a repair may not be necessary.
